AACF and Knight Foundation Support Downtown Aberdeen Art Project

By July 23, 2021 No Comments

The Aberdeen Area Community Foundation has been proud to partner with Northern State University art professor Alexis Doerr in a downtown art project funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Aberdeen Fund in the South Dakota Community Foundation. The goal of the project is to celebrate the work of local artists and add new beauty to Aberdeen’s Main Street to appeal to visitors. Alexis has recruited artists who have painted artworks on several store windows downtown.

The artists created works that depicted scenes of the Aberdeen area. The paintings will be removed this fall, with plans for art to return to downtown store windows in spring 2022.

Thanks to Alexis and all the artists who graced downtown windows with their art: Maddie Aguirre, Derek Decker, Lydia Saxton, and Livia Wallace. Thanks also to all the businesses who participated: Aberdeen Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Anytime Fitness, Capitol Theatre/Aberdeen Community Theatre, Dacotah Bank, and the Citizens Building.
