By January 31, 2025 No Comments

The South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) is pleased to announce the creation of new sub-funds under two of its community savings account (CSA) partners, Aberdeen Area Community Foundation (AACF) and Huron Community Foundation (HCF). The funds will support agricultural activities.

The Aberdeen Energy Agriculture Fund and the Huron Energy Agriculture Fund were established at the end of 2024. Each fund agreement gives the advisory councils of the two foundations grantmaking authority over the funds. The purpose of each fund is to support agriculture-related projects and organizations in Brown and Beadle counties. They are nonpermanent funds intended to be exhausted by June 30, 2026. Each foundation will develop plans for soliciting grant requests and distributing grants until the funds are depleted. To learn more about the Aberdeen Energy Agriculture Fund and how to apply, download the request for proposals by clicking the link below. The deadline for the first round of applications is February 28, 2025.

Funding for the new sub-funds was provided by Advanced BioEnergy as a result of the sale of its Aberdeen and Huron ethanol plants a few years ago. The company created the charitable funds to support agriculture in the South Dakota communities where it operated.

AACF and HCF have partnered with SDCF to create a long-term funding source for charitable causes in the local area. Nearly 90 communities have CSAs in partnership with SDCF. Since 1987, the Foundation has helped people reach their philanthropic goals and strengthened communities across the state.

SDCF is a public non-profit organization established in 1987. SDCF, with offices in Pierre, Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Aberdeen administers 1,200 funds benefiting hundreds of charitable organizations annually. Today, SDCF manages assets of more than $900 million and granted approximately $40 million in 2024. To learn more about SDCF, visit SDCommunityFoundation.org or call 800.888.1842.
